For course leaders
Run a production module on the tools the industry uses.
Stoodiohub gives every student film the production office a professional shoot has, and gives you one place to see them all. Free for film schools and universities.
A term in Stoodiohub
Pre-production
Students import their script (PDF, Fountain or Final Draft) and the scenes, cast and page counts are read for them. They break it down, build the stripboard and schedule, find and recce locations, and write a risk assessment for every place.
- Breakdown sheets in the industry layout
- Stripboard and day-by-day schedule
- Risk assessments per site, place and scene
The shoot
Call sheets build themselves from the schedule and go out by email, with the nearest A&E and the weather on them. Crew tap Got it. On set the script supervisor logs every take on a phone, even with no signal.
- Versioned call sheets, sent, opened and acknowledged
- Shot list, take log and continuity notes
- Daily production report
Post and wrap
Cards are logged and checked before they’re formatted, the shot log goes to DaVinci Resolve as metadata, and the credits build themselves from the crew and cast lists.
- DIT card log and safe-to-format check
- Resolve metadata out of the shot log
- Credits as PDF or text for the titles
Safety you can check before the shoot
Risk assessments with hazards suggested from each scene, rated before and after controls, signed by the 1st AD and approved by a producer as a PDF. Crew confirm they’ve read them. First aiders get an alert when someone’s hurt, and every incident is recorded. An insurance pack puts the policy, places, headcounts and every approved assessment in one PDF.
Questions course teams ask
How do students join?
Each cohort has an invite code and link, or students can join with their university email address. You choose whether they get in straight away or a lecturer approves each one. Staff can also add a whole list by pasting a column of email addresses.
What do lecturers see?
Every film in their cohorts, read-only: its stage, shoot dates, last activity, call sheets sent, contracts signed and paperwork filed. Lecturers never see students’ or crew’s contact details or profiles.
Can a lecturer step in?
Yes. With a reason, a lecturer can take production rights on a film for 24 hours, hand a film over to another student or archive it. The film’s owners are emailed each time and every step is logged.
What happens at graduation?
At the cohort’s end date the school’s oversight ends and the students keep their films, with a “Made at” line for your school. Lecturers and students get a reminder 30 days before.
Where is student data kept?
On servers in Germany (Hetzner, in the EU). Private details such as dates of birth, addresses, medical notes and emergency contacts are encrypted, and opening them is logged. Each person sees only what their job needs: phone numbers go to heads of department, sizes to costume, allergies to catering and first aid.
Under-18s on a student shoot?
Students must be 18 or over to register. Child performers are managed by a parent or guardian, who signs their releases and contracts. Each shoot day is checked against the child’s licence and chaperone.
How do students learn it?
The app has more than 100 short how-to guides, each with a “Take me there” button, and guided tours of a demo film for a 1st AD, a runner, a caterer and an actor. We’re happy to run a session with your students too.
What does it cost?
Free for film schools and universities. If a small admin fee would help your department raise funds, for kit or an end-of-year screening say, we can set one up together.
What a pilot looks like
Look round the demo
We add you to the demo film: a made-up short on day three of a six-day shoot, with everything filled in. Take the 1st AD tour in about fifteen minutes.
Set up one cohort
We set up your school; you add a cohort, its lecturers and its dates, and share the invite link with students.
Run one term
Students run their films in Stoodiohub from script to wrap. We check in with you during the term and fix what gets in the way.
